Jay Coda has created a unique style of guitar playing. It is a captivating and transforming experience each time it’s encountered. As a young boy he learned his grandfather’s depression-era country, yodeling cowboy songs, train songs and obscure gospel hymns. These were his only influences until his first experimentation with an electric guitar. Things were never the same again. Diversity was born and over 40 guitars later it continues to expand into the realms of blues, folk and country.
Jay Coda’s career boasts many highlights. He landed a country-wide tour, won a national music contest and has performed on stage at the Grand Ole Opry. He wrote for the famed Roy Orbison Publishing House giving him opportunities to write with veteran songwriters. He achieved national radio play and national video distribution on CMT.
Feeling the conformity of Nashville, Jay Coda began pursuing other avenues of his musical inspiration. Taking the sincerity from earlier experiences in his career where he sacrificed anything to sing his songs, he indulged rebellion against a dream that would ultimately constrain his expansive talent.
With a commercial release on the way and newfound musical freedom, Walker has unleashed himself once again. Hitting hard the music scene, Jay Coda has been able to go any place and connect with audiences of all genres. In a house of blues, the dance floor moves. At intimate folk houses he expresses his affection for writing and its sense of poetry. And he still he blows everyone away wherever there’s a sawdust floor. Staying true to himself, Jay Coda is now shining through as the poet, singer, songwriter and mind-blowing guitarist he was born to be.
